Boston Light Heroics

*** News from Great Bay Masters Swimming ***

Boston Light Heroics
Last Saturday, August 13th, GBM tough guys and our very own 'seal team', Bob
Fernald and Kyle Murray, completed the 2011 Boston Light Swim. The swim, a
local tradition since 1907, is the oldest open-water swim marathon in the United
States of America. Participants begin the race in the water at Boston Light on
Little Brewster and continue past George's Island and Rainsford Island, under
the Long Island Bridge, around Thompson's Island, finishing 8 miles later at the
L Street Bathhouse in South Boston.
Bob swam the race solo, while Kyle swam with friend Doug McKell in their two man
relay team 'McKell's Navy'. Bob had a great race to finish 2nd in just over
three hours, improving on his 4th place last year, while Kyle and Doug completed
in a highly creditable 3 hours 49 minutes. This year the race featured the added
attractions of jellyfish and rip tides. GREAT JOB GUYS!! (In case you have any
doubt about how nutty … oops, I mean how tough….. these guys really are – this
is a non-wetsuit event)

How about a Great Bay team in 2012?
