[GBM ENews List] Swimming Saves Lives

Hi Team

I would like to draw everyone's attention to the following from the latest NE masters swimming email:

1. USMS Adult Learn to Swim Certification -

I have been involved with USMS in the creation of the NEW ALTS certification program, which we plan to roll out in January 2015. As a certified ALTS Instructor, you will have the training and backing of USMS to run your own ALTS program, teach adult swim lessons, and train volunteers for the April Is Adult Learn To Swim Month initiative.

There will be two beta tests for the class, the first of which will take place in New England on January 17th at Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, Mass. The course will cost the general public $295. This price has been discounted to $100 for NE-LMSC members who participate in the first beta-test class. For those who require more financial assistance, your NE-LMSC Board of Directors has authorized an additional $50 subsidy if needed.

You can help us make this offering the best it can be by taking the course and providing thoughtful feedback after the class is done. If you are interested, please see the USMS website for more information and write to me at nechair@usms.org if you need the additional $50 subsidy.

This is related to the USMS "Swimming Saves Lives" Initiative. http://www.usms.org/giving/?utm_campaign=top_nav&utm_medium=about_usms

I believe Coach Crystie plans to attend.  I would encourage others who have an interest to take a look.  Please let me know if you would like more information on this program

[GBM ENews List] USMS Registration & Fall Mini Meets

Hello GBM'ers!

Below is a quick summary of your current renewal/registration options for US Masters Swimming.  We highly suggest that you register for 2 reasons - first; it opens the opportunities to participate in USMS sanctioned swim meets (it's required to participate) and two; it provides a lot of resources including online technique and training tips, forums, and a really fantastic magazine.

As of September 1, you have two registration options available online:
      1. An end-of-year 2014 membership, which is discounted from the full-year 2014 price. It expires on December 31, 2014.
      2. A year-plus membership, which is a 2014 membership PLUS a prepaid 2015 membership (available only online). For this option, the member makes LMSC and club selection and receives a 2014 card immediately. Then, in November, the member will be asked to confirm LMSC and club choice for 2015. When that's complete, a 2015 membership card is issued, and that one will expire on December 31, 2015.  Note that the year-plus membership includes an additional $10 discount off the USMS portion of the 2014 membership fee.
To register go to http://www.usms.org/reg/

Upcoming Swim Meets:

October 18th - Simmons Swim Fest, Boston, MA - entry form attached.
October 26th - Concord Mini-Meet, Concord, MA - entry form attached.

I will be attending both of these meets and will look forward to seeing folks there so that we can work on diving, racing and having some fun before the Championship meet in December (save the date for that too: Dec 12-14, info: http://scmchamps.blogspot.com/ )
